At a recent Web & Technical Writing Seminar, we had the opportunity to converse with Tim Entwisle, Director at Madrigal Communications about effective business writing and communications. |

Being a leaderin business writing and business communications, Mr. Entwisle heads a team of technical writers in New South Wales, Sydney. He was kind enough to share his perspective on why organisations should involve technical writers for business communications.
“Just like bookkeeping or IT, technical writing is a skill. While most business owners have skills in writing they often don’t understand how to write for their audiences. While they can give it a try, without the right knowledge and experience, they often miss the mark and produce poor and badly structured content. And trust me, poor content can do more harm than good for your brand”, shares the expert.
He further explains, “Getting a technical writer involved might seem like another added expense, but such a professional is, in fact, will add value to your business. An experienced technical writer can significantly improve business communications for your company, improve the quality of your customer communications and improve your chances of winning key business opportunities.
Moreover, business writing is a broad spectrum of skills and tasks that includes everything from media releases to employee handbooks. Importantly, these documents can be starkly different from each other in terms of tone and presentation and particularly in terms of the target audience. Instead of wasting your time on amateur and lack lustre documents, it is much wiser to let a technical writer handle them to increase your chances of success”.
Mr. Entwisle also highlights, “As far as running a business is concerned, every minute, and every resource counts. Does a business owner really want to waste time and resources of staff on drafting an annual report or writing management system documentation when they don’t have the skills? Getting a technical writer on board allows you to reserve your skilled staff for their key tasks and focus on core business operations”.
