Asset TV Live Scores a Touchdown in its Sportfolio Edition
To celebrate the 51st Super Bowl, Friday's edition of Asset TV Live had a special sportfolio theme. For this episode, the leading financial and investment video platform utilized its knowledge and data in the sporting industry to create a product that would give original and interesting statements.
The episode covered a wide range of sport themed financial criteria, including topics such as advice to winners on how they should invest their prize winnings, how individual players should manage the major sponsorship money that comes with big league sporting success, and how free agents or rookies should think about new contracts.
The innovative web series is the latest in a weekly show that every week discusses a variety of financial and investment issues set to an overriding theme live on social media. This week's episode was simultaneously broadcast across a range of platforms, including Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, Periscope and the Asset TV website.
Micheal Bapis, the Managing Director of Hightower Advisors, added expert credence to the discussion as this week's guest host. Bapis has over 15 years of wealth management and private banking experience in the sports and entertainment industry, which includes advising a wide range of professional athletes in the NFL, NHL and NBA on their finances. Regular hosts Gillian Kemmerer and Maya Chung ensured that the discussion was as enlightening as ever for investment professionals.
Early in in the episode Bapis elaborated on an interesting statistic put forth by the National Bureau on Economic Research; Kemmerer noted that 1 in 6 NFL players go bankrupt during or after their career. Bapis explained:
"The first thing with the NFL is the longevity of the life of a player in the NFL, 3 ˝ -4 years. The pension kicks in after four years, so a lot of times they get cut before they actually get their pension. So I think that drives it, but it's also bad investment decisions and bad advisors."
Friday's episode of Asset TV Live also retained its innovative returning segments, including Maya on the Street, which interviewed New Yorkers on what they would spend the Super Bowl prize money on. Also returning was the results of an Asset TV Twitter poll that asked users which team their portfolio would be, along with highlights clips from this week's top performing Asset TV videos.
