China's New School Shoe Standard Comes into Effect |

China’s new product standard for school shoes – QB/T 5301-2018 – came into effect on April 1, 2019. |

The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s new standard for primary and secondary school shoes came into effect on April 1, 2019.
Originally published on December 22, 2019, the product standard QB/T 5301-2018 covers various aspects of the design and manufacture of school shoes aimed at primary and secondary school pupils. These include terms and definitions, requirements, test methods, inspection rules and marks, packaging, transportation and storage.
The main technical requirements are:
• Appearance quality – must comply with Table 1 in QB/T 5301-2018
• Antibacterial performance – school shoes with antimicrobial properties should comply with the requirements of QB/T 2881
• Flexing resistance of whole shoe:
o New cracks should not appear in more than 3 positions
o Each crack should be ≤5.0mm in length
o No crazing or crack grain on upper
o Length of bonding failure on sidewall, upper-sole or outsole should be ≤5.0mm
o No coating damage on sole
o No crack on welt
o No air (liquid) leakage if assembled with air (liquid) cushion
• Abrasion resistance of outsole:
o Length of abrasion should be ≤14.0mm
o Must not appear poor vulcanization or worn out on the outer bottom
• Adhesion between upper and sole – ≥20N/cm
• Hardness of outsole:
o Foam material: 45~65 shore C
o Others: 45~65 shore A
• Color fastness to rubbing of lining and insole – ≥Grade 3
• Slip resistance – wet dynamic friction coefficient of ≥0.40
Manufacturers are advised to now check their products against the new product standard for school shoes.
