Monica Smiley, publisher and CEO of Enterprising Women magazine (http://www.enterprisingwomen.com), has named Alison Gutterman and Naomi Whittel as members of the Enterprising Women Advisory Board.
Gutterman is the president of Jelmar LLC, a Skokie, Ill. family-owned cleaning products manufacturer in business more than 60 years. She received her bachelor's degree in speech communication from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y. and her Master of Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Business at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. In 1993, Gutterman joined Jelmar, serving as a customer service representative, vice president of sales and chief operations officer before assuming the role of president from her father in 2007. One of Jelmar's biggest successes under her leadership has been the charge to make the company's products more environmentally friendly through a partnership with the Environmental Protection Agency's Design for the Environment program. In recognition of her business success, she was named the recipient of the Illinois 2012 Small Business Administration Jeffrey Butland Family Owned Small Business of the Year award. Active in the community, Gutterman serves as a member of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP) and Women's President Organization (WPO), among others. She resides in Skokie with her children, Michaela and Eli.
Whittel is the founder and chief executive officer of Reserveage™ Organics, a company committed to promoting and supporting an organic way of life through organic foods, nutritional supplements and products. She started her business in Gainesville, Fla. in 2008, and spreads awareness of the benefits of fostering good health, vibrancy and an overall sense of well-being to clients. Since the founding of Reserveage™ Organics, Whittel has expanded the company from four to 16 vitamin products available in major chain health and grocery stores across the country, as well as independent health stores. She has also led Reserveage™ Organics to become the fastest-growing company in the natural products industry. With her strong belief in giving back to the community, she donates a portion of business proceeds to local economies from which her product ingredients are sourced. In 2011, Whittel founded Developing and Advancing Women in Naturals (DAWN) with the goal of propelling a critical mass of female entrepreneurs and professional leaders in natural products.
Members of the Enterprising Women Advisory Board provide advice to the publication's staff to tailor the magazine to meet the needs of entrepreneurial women.
