Kate Atwood, executive director of the Arby's Foundation, was recently selected as one of the GOOD Magazine's GOOD 100, which honors 100 incredible people moving the world forward through "doing." The worldwide awards program is a project of GOOD, the global community of people who give a damn. Atwood is recognized for her impressive philanthropic history and her commitment to ending childhood hunger in America through her role with the Arby's Foundation.
Created in 2009, the GOOD 100 was designed to identify and honor the catalysts who drive change in their communities in creative and inspiring ways. They are artists, activists, and entrepreneurs-all are innovators from the worlds of education, design, business, technology, policy, environment and food. Curated by GOOD, its advisory board, and former GOOD 100 honorees, the GOOD 100 are emblematic of pragmatic idealism and creative engagement at its best.
Atwood's non-profit management experience began ten years ago when she founded Kate's Club, an organization that serves to support and empower children and teens facing life after the death of a parent or sibling. Having lost her own mother at the age of 12, Kate's vision was to build a place for grieving children to have fun, develop friendships and learn to cope with their loss. Kate served as the organization's executive director for six years and remains involved as its founder and advisory board chair. Prior to joining the Arby's Foundation, Atwood was a partner with Bcauz Marketing, helping companies build philanthropic strategies that align with their brands, people and values.
The Arby's Foundation was founded in 1986 and has donated more than $57 million to various charitable causes across the country over the last 27 years. In 2011, the Arby's Foundation changed its mission to ending childhood hunger in America and partnered with Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry® campaign. Atwood and her team strive to provide access to wholesome, quality meals to families through fundraising and awareness efforts including the second annual Hungry for Happiness Tour to help feed millions of U.S. children who struggle with hunger during the summer months.
"Improving the well-being of children is both a personal passion and the sole mission of the Arby's Foundation. Childhood hunger in America is a cause that is more than worthy of such recognition and one that can and must be solved," said Atwood. "I'm grateful to be part of the Arby's family and to receive this prestigious honor from GOOD Magazine."
As one of the GOOD 100, Atwood is profiled in GOOD Magazine's spring 2013 issue. For more information on the GOOD 100, visit http://www.good.is/good-100 or contact Diana Ahrens at diana@goodinc.com.
