In a case that has captured national attention, attorney Perry Thurston Jr. said in his opening statement Tuesday that Matthew Bent, 17, was one of three boys who confronted Michael Brewer, then 15, in the October 2009 incident, but Bent did not participate or plot the violence that ensued.
