Myanmar Begins Minimum Labeling Requirements for Priority Consumer Products

Myanmar has introduced labeling requirements for consumer products, including food and beverages, household products, children’s items, telecommunication equipment, drugs and supplements, chemicals cosmetics and toiletries.
On April 26, 2019, the Republic of the Union of Myanmar put into effect minimum labeling requirements for a wide variety of priority consumer products.

Published by the Department of Consumer Affairs as Directive No.1/2019, it states that the requirements are for the safety of consumers and must follow the list of consumer goods included in Notification No. 1/2018, published on October 26, 2018.

The label must be in the Myanmar language and must contain:

• Directions for use
• Storage information
• Allergy alerts and/or warnings
• Possible side effects (if applicable)

Myanmar considers products in the following categories to be priority products:

• Food and beverages
• Household products
• Children items
• Telecommunication equipment
• Drugs and supplements
• Chemicals
• Cosmetics
• Toiletries
• Other equipment – e.g. agricultural tools or fitness equipment
