Senator Jeanne Shaheen cuts the ribbon at Warner Power's new Hollis facility |
|
Former NH Governor and NH's senior US Senator, Jeanne Shaheen, cut the ribbon today at Warner Power's new Hollis facility. |
|
Hollis, NH - Ed Randall, President and CEO of Warner Power commented,
"We are absolutely delighted that Senator Shaheen could be with us today. We remember with pleasure her visit to our main plant in Warner, back in April 2010, so we are glad to welcome her to this exciting new venture in Hollis".
"Senator Shaheen has been very active in promoting NH business, helping to create jobs. She is also a member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, so energy-saving and energy efficiency have been a particular focus of her attention. She is well-known for her statement that 'the cheapest form of energy is the energy we save'."
"We are a strong supporter of the new bipartisan Energy legislation* that Senator Shaheen and Senator Rob Portman (R-OH) are jointly sponsoring. This really focusses on energy savings and will certainly stimulate interest in high efficiency appliances, including transformers"
*Energy Savings and Industrial Competitiveness Act of 2011
The Technology
The Hollis facility is dedicated to building a new type of electrical transformer called HexaformerŽ. This offers greater efficiency and raw material savings, compared with conventional transformers. These innovative products also are very attractive in a variety of industrial drive applications, with enhanced performance, and "grid-friendly" qualities.
The first Hexaformers were made in Sweden. Warner Power acquired the rights to this technology in order to bring them to the US. Today they are 100% engineered and built in New Hampshire. The goal is to expand production rapidly, adding at least 100 good jobs, with full benefits, over the next two years.
Thinking Big
But Warner Power is thinking big and has its eye on a much larger, nationwide market. Senior V-P Peter Amos explains:
"Hexaformers are half the story. We can then control and manage these superb transformers with our SmarTranŽ transformer management system. This creates significant further savings, which can be dramatic. For example a typical 75kVA transformer that you find in many buildings wastes as much as 400-500W of power, even under no load. And this is 24/365, so the cost really adds up. But a SmarTran/Hexaformer combo can cut these losses by over 80% to under 70W".
"Savings in the lifetime costs of ownership can be equally dramatic. Taking a typical operating load profile for a 75kVA transformer in, say, an office building or school, we can contrast $34,000 for existing 'legacy' products, to less than $14,000 for Warner Power's new technology. "
"Deployed nationwide these technologies could save up to $2.2Bn/year in electricity, equivalent to three times New Hampshire's annual electricity consumption".
Recognizing other notable guests at the opening ceremony
Warner Power welcomed Mr. Magnus Palmstierna, from Stockholm Sweden. Mr. Palmstierna was among the first to recognize the benefits of Hexaformer technology and was the founder of Hexaformer AB.
Warner Power welcomed Mr. Thomas Daly, Chairman, New Hampshire High Technology Council (NHHTC). Warner power is a proud member of NHHTC, and was pleased to be selected as a finalist in NHHTC's "Product of the Year" competition, featuring SmarTran and Hexaformer.
