SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published an article looking the problem of unsustainable packaging.
It is predicted that by 2050 we will be using 140 billion tons of resources every year. This is unsustainable.
A significant part of the problem is packaging that is being used to display, protect and transport the goods we buy. In 2018, it was estimated every EU citizen generated 174 kg of packaging waste. This is unsustainable.
Consumers, governments and industry are no longer ignoring this problem. They are now looking for more sustainable packaging options that reduce resource use and increase recyclability.
SGS’s Consumer Compact article looks at the global problem of packaging waste, considering its scale, the pressure being exerted by governments and consumers, and the responses being taken by industry.
