SGS Summarizes Standards Showing Conformity with Nickel Release Restrictions Under REACH |

SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at the EU’s announcement of a revised list of standards that show conformity with nickel release requirements under Annex XVII of REACH. |

SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS summarizing the EU’s publishing of a list of standards that demonstrate conformity with nickel release requirements under entry 27 in Annex XVII of Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).
The latest list of standards for presumption of conformity were published in the Official Journal of the EU (OJEU) on December 20, 2023. This follows the issuing of EN 1811:2023 for the release of nickel from all post assemblies that are inserted into pierced parts of the human body and articles intended to come into direct and prolonged contact with the skin by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) in February 2023.
SGS publishes SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory and market changes that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 002.24 provides an overview of the revised list and includes a table detailing the new standards and the iterations they replace.

The revised list of standards came into effect on December 20, 2023.
